Harry Randall & Family – 2009 Citizen of the Year Honorees
Harry Randall Jr. was born in Oradell, New Jersey in the 1920’s. After graduating from Westwood High School in 1944, he joined the Army and was placed in the Japanese language program. At the end of the war, he went to Tokyo as an interpreter with the U.S. Occupation forces. The son of a World War I veteran and county court judge, he followed in his father’s footsteps.
Following graduation from Dartmouth College and Rutgers Law School, he joined the family law practice, Randall & Randall, which has been established in Westwood for fifty-nine years. His expertise in municipal law was recognized by his being named Borough Attorney in several towns throughout the Greater Pascack Valley including Westwood, Hillsdale, Montvale, Cresskill and Woodcliff Lake.
His service to the community was extensive. He led Heart and Cancer Fund Drives, a county-wide Boy Scout Fundraiser, and coached both Little League and Babe Ruth League teams. He was a member and past commander of the Ralph W. Lester Post 130 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, founder and President of the Westwood Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Pascack Valley Chamber of Commerce which honored him as Citizen of the Year in 2009. He was a member of Rotary, the Masonic Temple F & M No. 173, Westwood Elks B.P.O.E 1562 and the International Commesation Association.
He became a member of the New Jersey Bar in 1953, served as president of the Bergen County Bar Association in 1975 and was recognized in 2013 for 60 years at the Bar.
Elected office has also been a part of the family tradition. Harry served as councilman in Westwood, a Bergen County Freeholder and a New Jersey State Assemblyman. He continued to take a keen interest in the politics of his hometown of Hillsdale where he served as an elected member of the county committee. Harry was a lifelong and active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Westwood.
